• I fulfilled my childhood dream of “making cartoons for the telly” when I started working as an Assistant Animator to Mark Mason way back in 1996. It’s pretty safe to say, that if it wasn’t for Mark, none of this would have been possible.

You’ll find a selection of work ranging from “old-school” traditional hand drawn delights, to more recent, digital projects.

There’s examples of both my Assistant Animator, and Animator skills, so be sure to read the info about each clip carefully. Each give details of my specific job role and a shout out to the other lovely people involved.

Description: A firm favourite this one! A compilation of my Key Assistant Animator work on Mark Mason’s awesome ‘Voley’ character animation for this half hour Christmas Special for the BBC. Originally aired on Christmas day right after the Queen’s Speech, this truly was a privilege to be part of. Whenever I received the next batch of Mark’s rough keys to clean up and assist I was always amazed by the quality of expression he could generate with a pencil! Check it out…

Description: It’s an oldie, but it’s a goodie! Looking back at this, it staggers me just how much effort (and paper) went into making this commercial. Hats off to Mark Mason for pulling this off. My roll was essentially assistant animator, but there was also lots and lots of hand rendering to be done. Multiple layers were needed to create the pastel effect, and every frame of the CGI background / camera move reference was actually printed out and stuck onto registered animation paper for us to match the character drawings to. Sheer madness!
